We meet at junction 1 (B&M) at 12:00 for a 12:30 departure to Lissan House, Cookstown where we will be given a guided mini tour of the house and we can have a picnic lunch (bring your 0wn) in wonderful surroundings. We then move on to the Wild Duck in Portglenone for an early evening meal. This in the last run of the season and one to be looked forward to.
Lissan House is an enchanting country residence set within a 250 acre demesne of ancient woodland and forestry. The estate was created in the 17th century and remained the home of the Staples family for nearly 400 years, reputedly the longest habitation by any single family of a country house in West Ulster.
Following an extensive redevelopment, the estate opened its doors in spring 2012, unveiling modern interactive exhibits alongside original family furnishings. Visitors are taken on a unique journey through the history of the estate and the fascinating characters who shaped it. The stunning demesne also features a wooded picnic area, a vibrant walled garden, and secluded walking trails to explore. The house and grounds are managed by an independent trust and run by a dedicated team of volunteers, including expert guides who are delighted to offer a variety of tailored tours.

Belfast Zoo’s invitation to East Antrim Old Vehicle Club to bring old cars to the “Dream night”
Most of you will probably remember the Dreamnight events which Belfast Zoo ran in years gone by. As far as I know COVID interupted things and Dream Night, unfortunately, fell by the wayside. The Zoo in conjunction with Belfast Live, PSNI, NIFS and 15 local companies are trying to get things up and running again. The event will be held anually and is specifically designed for chronically ill and disabled children and their families. They hope to open the Zoo to around 250 families from the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. The Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children and the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice. This event is extra special as it gives the families involved the opportunity to enjoy themselves in a safe, sensory - friendly and closed to the public environment which somertimes does not happen too often when a child in the family is unwell. Families will be treated to a number of fun activities including meeting some of the Zoo’s best known creatures observing feeding time and much more.
The event will be on the 19th June 2026. It will be a private event and entrance is by invitation only. The organises have invited EAOVC to bring their children/grandchildren and their classic/vintage cars to a static display.
Please remember that Kilbroney Show is being held the following day and we have been asked to supply as many pairs of hands to help set up on Friday or early Saturday morning. If you have the time or if you have not planned a trip to KIlbroney you might be interested in a pleasant evening at the Zoo.
This is not an EAOVC event so participants will not be covered by the AOVC, liability will be covered by the “Dream Night” organisers.
Norman and Carol have kindly offered to pass on to the organisers the names and details of those who want to go so please give them a ring if you want to go.

Drive it Day
We start our day at Colemans Nursery Centre where we will have a short static display and tea or coffee. We then Drive to the Famine Centre in Swatragh where we will be shown around by a knowledgeable guide. The centre was the home of Dr Mooney and his wife Sarah. Together they ran a surgery in the mid 1800s. During The Great Hunger (An Gorta Mór) they established a private soup kitchen to aid the community. In collaboration with esteemed historians like Ciaran Reilly from Maynooth University and local experts the centre brings to life the Mooney’s unwavering commitment during one of Irelands most challenging periods. Developed by Dermot Friel, the centre was inspired by the discovery of an original famine pot in 1992 and a small window on the historic site during lockdown.
